The Đại Việt sử ký toàn thư records that in 1149, during the reign of Lý Anh Tông, merchant ships from Xiān and two other countries reached Hǎidōng (海東), obtained permission to settle and trade, and were assigned a post at Vân Đồn (雲屯).
