adjective (acquainted — usually after a verb: be acquainted, get acquainted); also the past form of the verb acquaint (acquaint, acquaints, acquainted, acquainting)

meaning for a pupil

1) If you are acquainted with someone, you know them a little, because you have met them, but they are not a close friend. tree →

2) If you are acquainted with something, such as a book, a rule or a place, you know about it because you have read it, seen it or used it. tree →

3) (formal) To get acquainted means to meet and start to know each other. tree →

sense in the lessons

Interpretation: In Isaiah 53 the "man acquainted with disease" is read by many Jewish commentators as the people Israel, suffering among the nations, and not as one person. In the primary lessons: It tells the reader how well people know each other: «acquainted» is less than friends. In formal writing and old stories people are «acquainted» or «introduced». At school: «Get acquainted with the rules before the test.» Phrases: be acquainted with, get acquainted, become acquainted, well acquainted with, acquaint yourself with.

note

Always followed by «with»: acquainted with someone or something, not «acquainted to». Spelling: acq- (a, c, q): acquainted. Being acquainted is weaker than being friends. The noun is acquaintance: a person you know a little. «Get acquainted» is a bit formal; in everyday speech people say «get to know each other».
