sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: It is the way Israel must regard forbidden creatures: not eating them and treating their carcasses as something to avoid. In the book of Kings it also names the idols of foreign nations, such as Milcom and Chemosh, whom Solomon followed. Interpretation: Tradition takes this as a command to keep distance from forbidden foods, not only to avoid eating them. It reads Solomon's building of high places for these gods as a grave sin that led to the kingdom's splitting.
