In the primary lessons: In science, pupils study the development of a baby, a frog (from frog spawn to tadpole to frog) or a plant. In history and geography, development means how a country or town grows and gets roads, schools and hospitals; «developing countries» are poorer countries still building these. In news reports «a new development» means something new has happened. Phrases: «child development», «housing development», «software development», «in development», «the latest development».
