sense in the lessons

Interpretation: Fever is one of the afflictions in the curses of the Torah for those who leave the covenant. Tradition reads these warnings as a call to return and keep the commandments. In the primary lessons: In health lessons, normal body temperature is about 37 °C (98.6 °F); a fever is a temperature above about 38 °C (100.4 °F). Fever is the body fighting germs. Rest, drink plenty, and tell an adult; a very high fever or a fever with a rash, stiff neck or breathing trouble needs a doctor. A thermometer measures it. Phrases: have a fever, run a fever, hay fever (an allergy, not a real fever), fever pitch, cabin fever (restless from staying indoors).

examples

  • The LORD will smite thee with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with drought, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. (Torah DEU.28.22, JPS 1917) tree →

note

In British English people also say "a temperature" (He's got a temperature) to mean a fever. "Hay fever" is an allergy to pollen, with no fever. In maths problems with temperatures, a fever is a number above normal: 39 °C is 2 degrees above 37 °C.
