sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: One of the nations living in Canaan, whose land was promised to Abraham's children; Esau's Hittite wives caused his parents grief. Later, Uriah the Hittite is a loyal soldier of David, whose wife Bath-sheba David took. Interpretation: Rashi says Esau's wives practiced idolatry and made life bitter for Isaac and Rebekah. Uriah is remembered as a faithful man, and David's wrong to him is something the rabbis discuss with care.
