meaning for a pupil

3) (informal) A magazine for a gun – the part that holds the bullets. tree →

4) (informal) Short for «mag wheel» (a shiny metal car wheel), or for magnitude/magnesium in science shorthand. tree →

sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Here it is part of the Babylonian title Rab-mag, a chief official. It is not the magazine. Interpretation: The title probably means a chief of the priests or magicians. Tradition mentions it among Nebuchadnezzar's officers when Jerusalem fell. In the primary lessons: Mostly a clipped word in everyday talk: «a comic mag», «a gaming mag», «a football mag». In older Australian and British speech, «to mag» is to chat a lot. In science notes, «Mg» is the symbol for magnesium; «mag» may be written as a shorthand. It tells the reader the speaker is casual.
