sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah this is only part of the word "mid-wife", an old spelling of "midwife". In the primary lessons: In maths the midpoint is the point exactly halfway along a line. In time talk mid-morning, midday, midnight and mid-week tell where in the day or week something happens. In stories «mid-air» and «mid-sentence» show that something was interrupted halfway. Phrases: in mid-air, mid-way, in the mid-twenties (of an age or temperature).

note

Usually joined to another word with a hyphen (mid-air, mid-week) or written as one word (midday, midnight, midpoint). «Mid» as slang for «average or poor» is informal teen talk, not for written work. In maths «mid» means halfway, so the midpoint of 0 and 10 is 5.
