In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah a tenth is the part given as a tithe, and a tenth of an ephah is a measure for flour offerings. In Chronicles it also means the tenth in order, as in lists of the priests, singers and soldiers. Interpretation: The tithe, a tenth of produce, was set aside for priests, Levites and the poor, and the idea of giving a tenth is still part of Jewish giving. Tradition reads the lists in Chronicles as showing that each person's place in the Temple service was ordered and known. In the primary lessons: Maths: an order position (the tenth day) or a fraction (one tenth = 0.1); one tenth of a total means divide by 10; decimals: 0.3 is 3 tenths.
