sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: "Uncover nakedness" is the Torah's polite phrase for forbidden marriage or relations. The prophets use "uncover" for public shame, such as uncovering skirts or the leg of a captive, and Job asks who can uncover the face of a garment, meaning strip away its outer covering. Interpretation: Tradition reads these as the list of forbidden relationships that protect families and holiness. It reads the prophets' images as warnings that sin brings shame and punishment, as on proud Babylon. In the primary lessons: Used in cooking («uncover the pan»), archaeology and science («uncover fossils, ruins»), detective stories and news («uncover the truth, a plot, a secret»). It tells the reader that something hidden is now seen or known.
