WordNet—Wikipedia—Wiktionary: Construction of a Three-way Alignment

What it is about

The paper builds a three-way alignment of senses from existing pairwise alignments of WordNet with Wikipedia and with Wiktionary. It gives set-theoretic conventions for concepts and their alignments, and an algorithm that merges pairwise alignments into n-way synonym sets. The result has 63,771 distinct sense identifiers (27,324 WordNet synsets, 19,916 Wiktionary senses and 16,531 Wikipedia articles), and 9,987 synonym sets (63%) with one identifier from each source. The alignment has more coverage and coarser senses, but less accuracy. Clusters built from it are no better than random clusters in a Senseval-3 test. Adding its glosses helps a simple Lesk baseline by a small significant amount, but lowers recall by 2.27 points for an extended Lesk system.

Ideas

For Mova

The code is onto/src/wsd.rs and the onto crate, with the Lesk variants there. The chapter is 19. The lexicon: vocabulary, multiword expressions and register. The paper's alignment uses Wikipedia and Wiktionary text (CC BY-SA), so only the method and the evaluation design are taken; no aligned glosses go into the build. Measure first: the WSD accuracy with and without an extra gloss on EWT, two identical runs.
