Tokens are surface tokens (Spanish vámonos is one), words are syntactic words (vamos + nos); multiword tokens are those split into several words; empty nodes are the N.M nodes of the enhanced graph.

Summary

The LFG Enhanced UD treebank of Polish is based on a corpus of LFG (Lexical Functional Grammar) syntactic structures generated by an LFG grammar of Polish, POLFIE, and manually disambiguated by human annotators.

Introduction

The treebank consists of around 17,200 sentences (see the Data Split section for precise numbers). Thanks to the richness of the original LFG representations, it makes heavy use of enhanced dependencies. Secondary edges are used not only in representations of coordination (for shared dependents and shared governors), but also for various control-like constructions.

The annotation differs from (the release 2.1 of) the SZ UD treebank of Polish also in other respects, including the following:

  • Direct objects are understood here not as just any bare nominal required dependents of verbs, but as those dependents which passivise, i.e., which become subjects in the passive voice. In the case of nominal direct objects, the standard obj relation is used, and in the case of clausal direct objects, the subtyped ccomp:obj is applied.
  • Only dative required nominal dependents are understood as indirect objects.
  • The three masculine genders in Polish are represented via the language-specific SubGender feature (rather than Animacy).
  • Abbreviations are assigned parts of speech of their full forms.
  • Predicative complements of non-copular verbs are consistently marked as xcomp.
  • Preposition + short pronoun contractions are tokenised properly.
  • A distinction is made between interrogative and relative pronouns.
  • Impersonal -no/-to forms are correctly marked as verbs (rather than as adjectival passive participles).
  • Impersonal uses of the so-called reflexive marker się are distinguished (as expl:impers).
