Tests: 6 of 12 right · Exam: 2 of 4 right · Kind: ★★ · Understood: 9 of 16 · Run: 2026-11-05, commit 610eccd1d

Lesson 19 of the commands course of Mova's primary school, as Mova's small model took its tests: it had read this lesson and the ones before it and learned from their exercises. Each test shows the options in the order the student saw them, its choice, the right answer, the score of every option and why it chose.

Test 1 · ★★ · wrong ✗

Liam carried the robot vacuum to the front door when Mum said "send it home". What went wrong?

  • 1. Nothing, the front door is its real home — ← Mova's choice · no support
  • 2. He should have left it in the back garden — no support
  • 3. He should have taken it up to his room — no support
  • 4. "Home" meant its dock, not the house door — ✓ the right answer · no support

Why: No option found support in what it remembers, so it guessed: it took the first option shown.

Test 2 · ★★ · wrong ✗

Ava expected "turn right" to move the robot one square too, so it ended one square short. Why?

  • 1. Robots always miss out the last square — no support
  • 2. The robot got tired after two squares — ← Mova's choice · score 4
  • 3. "Turn right" only turns it on the spot — ✓ the right answer · no support
  • 4. The cards were in the wrong colour — no support

Why: It took the question to ask why something happens (its cause). It chose option 2 with score 4, the only option with support. Its support: lesson 19, line 2: «Robots do not understand goals like "go to the red square", and shouting louder does not help. They need steps pressed on their buttons, or the exact word said…», reached through the option's own match among the sentences about the question's things. What matched: the same doer «robots» (+2); the same circumstance (+2). The right option, 3, found no support in what it remembers.

Test 3 · ★★ · wrong ✗

Noah, Glasgow, to the robot: "just go tae the red square, ya numpty!" Then louder. What would actually work?

  • 1. Calling it nicer names, then asking — ← Mova's choice · no support
  • 2. Saying it slower, in posh English — no support
  • 3. Shouting it a third time, really loud — no support
  • 4. Pressing the steps on its buttons — ✓ the right answer · no support

Why: No option found support in what it remembers, so it guessed: it took the first option shown.

Test 4 · ★★ · right ✓

"did u hear?? Jayden's sister poked the vacuum brush while it was on and it ate her hair, she screamed the house down." What is the real lesson?

  • 1. Poke it really quickly so the brush cannot catch you — no support
  • 2. Only grown-ups' hair gets caught, so kids are quite safe — no support
  • 3. Never own a robot vacuum, they are all far too dangerous — no support
  • 4. Switch a machine off before you touch its moving parts — ← Mova's choice · ✓ the right answer · score 5

Why: It took the question to ask which statement is true. It chose option 4 with score 5, the only option with support. Its support: lesson 19, line 10: «Switch a machine off before you touch its moving parts, such as a jammed brush, and tell an adult.», reached through the remembered sentence the question matched. What matched: the same action «touch» (+3); the same thing acted on «moving parts» (+2).

  • 3. No, toy robots never stop once they start — no support
  • 4. No, it needs the exact word, said clearly — ← Mova's choice · ✓ the right answer · score 9

Why: It took the question to ask which statement is true. It chose option 4 with score 9, the only option with support. Its support: lesson 19, line 8: «Robots need steps or exact words, not goals; a robot cannot work out what you meant.», reached through the remembered sentence the question matched. What matched: the same doer «robots» (+4); the same action «need» (+3); the same thing acted on «steps» (+2).

  • 3. Jump right over the mower to reach the ball — no support

The vacuum said "task complete", but the whole hallway is still crumbs. Big sis: "it slightly missed a bit." What really happened?

  • 2. It cleaned the hallway twice over — no support
  • 3. It missed one crumb, no big deal — score 2

Why: It took the question to ask what happens next. It chose option 1 with score 2, tied with another option at 2 (the first shown, or the one claiming less beyond what it knows, wins). Its support: lesson 19, line 4: «When you press go again, first check where the robot got to and which steps are left: "where was it?" And when a machine says "task complete", look before you…», reached through what followed the sentence the question matched. What matched: the same action «miss» (+4). Against it: a different doer (counts against) (-2).

Test 8 · ★★ · right ✓

Your partner said "yeah" when Miss asked "did it work?", but the robot had stopped two short. Why is "yeah" a bad answer?

  • 3. It is rude; you should say "yes, Miss" — no support
  • 4. It is fine, as long as the robot moved — no support

Why: It took the question to ask why something happens (its cause). It chose option 2 with score 3, the only option with support. Its support: lesson 19, line 13: «Report what really happened with a robot: "no, it stopped two short" helps; a fake "yeah" hides the mistake.», reached through the same lesson line as the sentence the question matched. What matched: the same action «hide» (+2); the same thing acted on «mistake» (+2). Against it: a different doer (counts against) (-1).

Test 9 · ★★ · wrong ✗

Mum, Yorkshire, to the bickering brothers: "don't start, you two, I'm mardy enough already." What does she want?

  • 1. Start bickering later — no support
  • 2. Stop the bickering now — ✓ the right answer · no support
  • 3. Start tidying the room — ← Mova's choice · score 6
  • 4. Stop the homework now — no support

Why: It took the question to ask what it is done to. It chose option 3 with score 6, the only option with support. Its support: lesson 5, line 1: «Some commands come straight from the person who wants the job done. Others come second-hand, through a messenger: "Mum said tidy your room."», reached through the option's own match among the sentences about the question's things. What matched: it fills the role the question asks for (+3); the same thing acted on «room» (+2); the same action «tidy» (+1). The right option, 2, found no support in what it remembers.

Test 10 · ★★ · wrong ✗

Freya turned the console off when her brother said "pause the game", and her level was lost. What should she have done?

  • 2. Pressed pause, so the game waits where it is — ✓ the right answer · no support
  • 3. Saved, quit, and started a brand new game — score 9
  • 4. Unplugged it, since that is what pause means — ← Mova's choice · score 11

Why: It took the question to ask what is done. It chose option 4 with score 11, against 9 for the next best. Its support: lesson 19, line 15: «"Pause" means stop for a bit and then go on from the same place; turning a console off is not pausing and can lose your game.», reached through the same lesson line as the sentence the question matched. What matched: it fills the role the question asks for (+5); the same action «mean» (+4); the same doer «pause» (+2). The right option, 2, found no support in what it remembers.

Test 11 · ★★ · right ✓

You are steering the class robot when Miss cuts in: "Stop! it's about to go off the table!" Is she right to interrupt?

  • 1. No, you should never interrupt a pupil — no support
  • 2. No, she should wait till the steps end — no support
  • 3. Yes, it's about to fall, so stop it now — ← Mova's choice · ✓ the right answer · score 1
  • 4. Yes, but only once she has said please — no support

Why: It applied a rule: lesson 11, line 6 («"Stop!" shouted in danger means stop at once, then do the thing that keeps people safe.»), joined by «mean». Its condition Event _ stop | quoted matched the question's Event _ stop | quoted. Its conclusion, so: Event _ stop | next→#1016. Option 3 says it (Event _ stop patient=robot(«it») | cause→#1), the only option that does.

Its support: lesson 19, line 1: «A robot does exactly the steps it is given, nothing more and nothing less.
