sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah it means go up, such as angels climbing the ladder in Jacob's dream or smoke rising from Mount Sinai. In the Prophets and Writings it is also used for going up to heaven or to God's holy mountain, and for proud rulers who want to rise above God. Interpretation: Jacob's ladder is read as a link between heaven and earth, and the angels going up first is noted by commentators. The psalm that asks who may ascend the LORD's mountain is read as asking what kind of person may come near God. Isaiah's proud king who says "I will ascend" is read as a warning against pride. In the primary lessons: In maths, "put these numbers in ascending order" means from smallest to largest: 3, 7, 12, 20. In science and geography, climbers ascend mountains and air pressure falls as you ascend. In formal and exam language, ascend replaces "go up". Phrases: ascending order, ascend a mountain, ascend the stairs, ascend the throne.
