part of speech

adjective (asleep — only after a verb: be asleep, fall asleep)

meaning for a pupil

1) Sleeping. tree →

2) Of an arm or leg: numb and tingly because you sat on it too long: «My foot is asleep». tree →

sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Psalms God is pictured as waking like a sleeper. In Jonah the prophet sleeps in the ship during the storm. Interpretation: Tradition says that God does not really sleep. The picture shows how God's help can seem far away until He acts. Jonah's sleep is read as his attempt to run from his mission. In the primary lessons: In health lessons: children need about 9–12 hours of sleep; screens and sugar before bed make it harder to fall asleep; a regular bedtime helps. In safety: don't fall asleep in the sun or in the bath; drivers must not fall asleep. In stories: Sleeping Beauty was asleep for a hundred years. Phrases: fall asleep, fast asleep, sound asleep, half asleep, asleep at the wheel.
