sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the old translation, "bowels" means the inner body, and the place where children come from, as in "out of thine own bowels." It can also mean deep feeling. In Ezra, "bowels of gold" is an old word for gold bowls or basins. Interpretation: In the later books, the bowels are the place of sickness, as when God struck a king with an incurable disease there, and Job says the wicked man's food turns to poison in his bowels. The tradition reads such verses as showing that suffering follows wickedness. In the primary lessons: In science and health lessons the bowel is part of the digestive system; doctors ask about "bowel movements" (a polite word for going to the toilet for a poo). In stories "the bowels of the ship" means deep down inside it. Phrases: bowel movement, the bowels of, large bowel, small bowel.
