sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: "Burnt-offering" is an offering that is wholly burned on the altar and given up to God. Here "burnt" also means just burned in a fire. Interpretation: The burnt-offering (olah, meaning "that which goes up") is the one offering that was entirely burned. The tradition reads it as a gift of complete devotion to God. In the primary lessons: In everyday life and safety, «I burnt my hand» needs cool running water for many minutes; burnt toast sets off smoke alarms. In science, burning is a chemical change that cannot be undone: burnt paper turns to ash and smoke. Phrases: «burnt toast», «burnt to a crisp», «burnt out» (very tired, or a fire that has stopped), «get burnt».
