In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Two golden cherubim were on the ark-cover in the tabernacle, facing each other with outstretched wings, and the LORD spoke from between them. Solomon's Temple had two huge carved cherubim, each ten cubits high. The poets also picture God riding upon a cherub and flying on the wings of the wind. Interpretation: Tradition holds that the cherubim faced each other when Israel did God's will. Some say they had the faces of children. The picture of God riding a cherub is read as showing that God rules the heavens and comes swiftly to save.
