part of speech

verb (choose, chooses, chose, chosen, choosing)

meaning for a pupil

1) To choose is to pick one from several: choose a book. tree →

2) To choose is to decide to do something: She chose to walk home. tree →

sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In Deuteronomy God "chooses" a place for worship, and he also chooses Israel as his people. In Proverbs and Job people choose their own ways, such as the fear of the LORD, or choose out their arguments. Interpretation: Tradition says the chosen place was Jerusalem, where the Temple later stood. The choosing of Israel is read as a call to responsibility and to keeping the commandments, not as a claim to be better. Proverbs is read as showing that people are free to choose the fear of the LORD or to reject it. In the primary lessons: picking the operation after reading the whole problem («Read the whole problem first, then choose»); in class «choose the right answer», «choose a partner»; in everyday life choosing food, clothes, games; in safety «choose to be kind», «choose a safe place to play»

note

A study rule: read everything before choosing. Trap: in a story «chooses 3 of them» means taking a part, often subtract for the rest. Past forms «chose», «chosen»; noun «choice». Do not mix «choose» (now) with «chose» (past).
