sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the laws of offerings it means the guilt-offering that a wrongdoer must bring as payment for a wrong, and also, in the vineyard law, to lose the crop. It also means to lose something because of wrongdoing, such as one's life or one's goods. Interpretation: The ram brought as a guilt-offering (asham) is read as a way to make amends with God and the neighbor. The law against mixing seeds belongs to the laws of kilayim, kinds that must not be mixed. In later books the "forfeit money" was paid to the priests, and Ezra's law took a man's goods if he did not come. In the primary lessons: In sport: «The team had to forfeit the match» (they lose automatically). In party games: losers must pay a forfeit (sing a song, do a silly dance). In rules: «If you don't pay on time, you forfeit your place».
