sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the sacrifice laws, the "lobe of the liver" is a special part of the animal burned on the altar as an offering to God. In the later books the liver is also an inner organ: an arrow can strike it, the king of Babylon looks at a liver to tell the future, and in Lamentations a poured-out liver is a sign of deep grief. Interpretation: Tradition counts this part, with the fat and kidneys, as God's portion, burned on the altar. Today the liver must be specially broiled to remove blood before it may be eaten. Looking into the liver is read as a heathen form of divination, which the Torah forbids. In the primary lessons: In science lessons about the human body, the liver is the largest organ inside the body; it removes harmful things from the blood, makes bile to help digest fat, and stores sugar for energy. In everyday life some people eat liver and onions or liver pâté. Phrases: «liver and onions», «liver disease», «chicken liver».
