Interpretation: Tradition sees them as Egyptians and others who joined Israel. Some commentators say they later stirred up complaints in the wilderness, as in the craving for meat. In the primary lessons: a group of different kinds counted together; also the past form of mix; in maths a mixed number like 2 1/2; in sport and school a mixed team has boys and girls; phrases «mixed up» (confused), «mixed feelings», «mixed bag»

note

Mixed things are counted together, so the total is the sum of the kinds. A mixed number is a whole number and a fraction. Trap: to find one kind, subtract the other kinds from the total. 2 1/2 means 2 + 1/2, not 2 × 1/2.
