sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In Sefer Yetzirah it is one of the five places in the mouth where the letters are made. In Job and the Psalms it is the sense of taste, used as a picture: the ear tests words as the palate tests food, and God's words taste sweeter than honey. Interpretation: The five places of speech are read as a sign that sound itself is part of God's ordered creation. The psalmist's sweet words are read as the joy of studying Torah. In the primary lessons: In science lessons about the body it is part of the mouth: the hard palate at the front, the soft palate at the back. In everyday life and cookery it is about taste: «a child's palate». Phrases: «cleft palate», «a sensitive palate», «please the palate».
