In the primary lessons: In maths: a rate: beats per minute; problems ask how many beats in a number of minutes or seconds; count for 15 seconds and multiply by 4. In science and PE: pulse goes up with exercise and down with rest; a healthy child's resting pulse is often about 70 to 110. In food: pulses are rich in protein. In stories: «her pulse raced».
