sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah to rise often means to stand up or to get up and go. It also means to rise up against someone. Interpretation: The command to "rise up" before the elderly is read as a duty to honour them. The morning prayer remembers God for raising up those who are bowed down. In the primary lessons: In science, hot air and smoke rise because they are lighter than the cooler air around them; bread rises because of yeast; the Sun appears to rise in the east because the Earth spins. In maths and data, «a rise of 5 degrees» means add 5. In safety, flood waters can rise quickly. Phrases: «rise and shine» (wake up), «on the rise» (increasing), «give rise to» (cause), «rise to the challenge».

Irregular: rise, rose, risen. «Rise» has no object (the sun rises); «raise» has an object (raise your hand). Do not confuse «rose» (past of rise) with «rose» (the flower). Maths: «rose from 12 to 20» means a rise of 20 − 12 = 8.
