Humility
Gist. The proud and boastful fall; the modest do not scorn the weaker.
Conditions and exceptions. Healthy dignity is not pride. Judgment is by the state of the world: scorn for a rival, the same goal, the rival reached it, and the proud one was left in trouble.
Examples.
- The Hare and the Tortoise (Aesop): the hare mocks the tortoise's slowness, sleeps in the middle of the race and loses.
- The Lion and the Mouse: the lion laughs at the idea that a mouse could ever help a lion — and the mouse saves him.
Sources. Aesop's fables; Prov 16:18 ("pride goes before destruction"). Draft proposed by the LLM (answer-principles.txt).
