Help your neighbour

Gist. Mercy: help someone in trouble, even when they are weaker and cannot repay right away.

Conditions and exceptions. Help that harms others is not mercy.

Examples.

• The Lion and the Mouse (Aesop): the lion let the mouse go, and later the mouse gnawed through the net and saved the lion. The small can help the great.
• The Good Samaritan (Lk 10:30–37): he helped a stranger when others passed by.

Sources. Aesop's fables; Lk 10:25–37.
