Adversarial Multitask Learning for Joint Multi-Feature and Multi-Dialect Morphological Modeling

What it is about

The authors tag fourteen Arabic morphological features (POS, aspect, case, gender, and others) with one Bi-LSTM whose hidden layers are shared across features, instead of one model per feature. Candidate tags from an analyser are embedded per feature and summed, and the analyses are then ranked by weighted feature matches. For Egyptian Arabic, a low-resource variety, they transfer from Modern Standard Arabic by training on both in turn, and a gradient-reversal discriminator pushes the shared features toward dialect invariance. On the development test set, full analysis accuracy for MSA rises from 85.6 (MADAMIRA) to about 91.3–91.4 with the multitask variants, and for Egyptian from 76.2 to 77.5. The adversarial part helps most when the Egyptian training data is small.

Ideas

For Mova

I2 goes into tools/hbo, as the candidate ranking after the segmenter tables. I1 is a measure for 11. Mishnaic Hebrew (hbo-x-mishnaic), run with tools/hbo. I3 is a reporting rule for the tools/hbo tests and for tools/macula compare.
