Derivational Relations in Arabic WordNet

What it is about

The Arabic WordNet has many synsets but few cross-POS links between words that share a root, such as a verb and its agent noun. The authors group the entries by root into "bags of words" (the paper reports 6,608 bags and works with 5,462 of them), then apply transformation rules keyed on the verb class and the pattern, and add the derivational relation each rule licenses. A lexicographer checks the rules and the output; no automatic validation is used. The bags containing verbs (4,275) are sorted by verb form. The method adds 8,865 new relations to the existing set, giving 50,001 in all. The paper reports no precision or recall figure, only the lexicographer check.

Ideas

For Mova

I1 goes into tools/macula (the dictionary and its roots) and The lexicon. I2 goes into The verb and the lexicon. I3 is a test to run before any derived relation is used. Arabic is not a Mova target language; the rule design (root bags, class-keyed rules, a sampled check) is what carries over.
