Papers

  1. Evaluation Metrics for Knowledge-Based Machine Translation (1994)
The paper argues that a machine translation system should be judged both by global black-box scores and by a component-wise causal analysis, so that each error can be traced to the module that made it.
  2. The KANT perspective: a critique of pure transfer (and pure interlingua, pure statistics, .. ) (1992)
The authors argue that the main MT paradigms (transfer, interlingua, statistics, case-based) are each judged by their weakest early form, and that the right question is which combination of methods suits a given task.
  3. An Efficient Interlingua Translation System for Multi-lingual Document Production (1991)
The KANT prototype aims at knowledge-based translation without post-editing and without human help during disambiguation.
