Mountains: life as you climb higher, sentence 6

Air gets colder by about 6 to 7 degrees for every 1000 metres you climb, which is why Kilimanjaro, almost on the equator, has snow and ice near its top; it is not because the top is nearer the Sun, which is about 150 million km away, so a few km closer makes no difference.
