sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: The rule of the added fifth applies to redeeming a field, an animal or a tithe that had been set apart as holy. Rachel's wish at Joseph's birth is a prayer for another son. Interpretation: The rabbis read the added fifth as a penalty for taking back what was given to God. The name "Joseph" is read as "may He add," pointing to Benjamin's birth. In the primary lessons: the operation + ; at the table, to put one more thing down so the count goes up; in maths «add», «add up», «added to», «the sum of» all mean +; in cooking and science «add water», «add the powder» means put more in; in talk «to add to that» means to say more; phrases: add up, add on, add to, add up to (make a total)

note
«add» names the operation directly: put the amounts together (+). Past form «added» with -ed and double d. Adding whole numbers never makes the total smaller. Trap: «add up the difference» still needs the difference found first; read the whole question. Do not confuse «add» with «ad» (a short word for an advert): they sound the same.
