sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: A parent corrects a child with discipline. The law deals with the stubborn and rebellious son. In the psalms and Job, God chastens a person, sometimes through pain. Interpretation: Tradition teaches that God chastens his people as a father does his son, to teach and not only to punish. The rabbis limited the law of the rebellious son so strictly that it was almost never carried out. The psalmist prays that God's correction be gentle and not in anger.
