sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In Genesis the concubines of the patriarchs and their sons, such as Reumah, Bilhah and Timna, were secondary wives whose children counted in the family line. Later books also name concubines of kings such as David and of men like Caleb, and the Song of Songs lists them among the women of a royal court. Interpretation: Tradition sees concubines as legal partners with fewer rights than a wife, and commentators discuss why the patriarchs had them. Reuben's act with Bilhah is read by many as a serious wrong.
