sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: To glean is to gather the grain or grapes left behind after the harvest. The Torah says these must be left for the poor, the stranger, the orphan and the widow. Interpretation: The gleanings are one of the "gifts to the poor", along with the corner of the field. Tradition sees them as a duty, not a favour. The farmer is only a keeper of what truly belongs to God. In the primary lessons: In school pupils glean facts from texts, charts and sources in history or science. In religion lessons the law of gleaning shows care for the poor and foreigners. Phrases: «glean information from», «glean facts», «glean in the fields».
