sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: Laban says he would have sent Jacob off with mirth and songs. In Sefer Yetzirah mirth is linked to a letter. Interpretation: Sefer Yetzirah links the letter Qoph with mirth, the sign Pisces, the month Adar and the spleen. Adar is the month of joy at Purim. In the primary lessons: A slightly old, literary word. In The Wind in the Willows the banquet and the Christmas carols at Mole End are full of mirth; in Alice the Hatter's tea party is anything but. Stories say «roars of mirth», «shaking with mirth». Today in speech we would say «laughter» or «fun».
