sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: To raise up means to bring forth or appoint, as God will raise up a prophet or a man will raise up a child for his dead brother. In the Prophets and Psalms God also raises up a leader, or raises a stormy wind. Interpretation: The raising of seed for a dead brother is the law of levirate marriage. The promised prophet "like Moses" is read as a sign that God will always send true prophets to guide Israel. Isaiah's one raised from the east is read by tradition as Abraham. In the primary lessons: In class, raise your hand to ask or answer a question. In maths, a number raised to a power is multiplied by itself (2 raised to the power 3 = 2 × 2 × 2 = 8). In charity events, schools raise money with bake sales and fun runs. In farming, farmers raise sheep or crops. Phrases: raise your hand, raise money, raise your voice, raise the alarm, raise awareness, raise a family.

note

Raise needs an object (you raise something); rise does not (the sun rises). Compare: "I raised the flag" / "The flag rose". In maths problems, "prices were raised by 2" means add 2; "raised to the power" means repeated multiplication. Do not confuse with "rays" or "raze", which sound the same.
