sense in the lessons

In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In these verses the word means a man who served in a pagan shrine in immoral worship, which Israel is forbidden to have. Good kings such as Asa, Jehoshaphat and Josiah removed them from the land and broke down their houses beside the Temple. Interpretation: Tradition reads the law as a ban on the immoral rites of idol worship and keeps Israel's holiness separate from them. The kings who drove them out are praised as reformers who cleansed the land.
