sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the offerings, to "wave" means the priest lifts and moves the offering back and forth before the LORD. A "wave-offering" is a portion given to God this way and then given to the priests. In the Psalms and Samuel, "waves" are the sea's surges, used as a picture of danger and trouble, or of God calming the storm. Interpretation: Tradition says the waving was done in all directions, toward the four winds and up and down, to show that God rules everywhere. The waves of Death and of God's wrath are read as figures for great distress from which God can save. In the primary lessons: In science, waves carry energy: sound travels in waves, light travels in waves; wind makes sea waves. In safety at the beach: big waves and rip currents can be dangerous; wave your arm and shout if you need help in the water. Phrases: wave goodbye, heat wave, Mexican wave, wave hello, crime wave.
