sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah and Prophets it means to bring justice for a wrong. It is often said of God, who acts against evildoers on behalf of the wronged. In the Psalms people pray that God will avenge the blood of His servants so that the nations will see it. Interpretation: Tradition teaches that vengeance belongs to God. The law limits human revenge and sets up courts to judge. When God avenges, it is read as justice and not as spite. In the primary lessons: in tales, a hero or child who pays back a wrong done to a family member.
