sense in the lessons
In the Tanakh and Jewish tradition: In the Torah "new" often refers to the new moon, the start of each month, and to new grain and fruit. The Prophets and Writings also use it for new wine and for a "new song" sung to God, and Lamentations says God's mercies are new every morning. Interpretation: The new moon, Rosh Chodesh, is a minor festival marked by extra offerings. Tradition also forbids eating new grain before the omer offering is brought. The "new song" of the Psalms is read as praise for a fresh act of God's rescue, and the verse in Lamentations is read as a sign of hope even in sorrow. In the primary lessons: marks things that are added: new books, new toys, new apps; in stories a new start, a new friend or a new school; phrases «brand new», «new to», «what's new?», «New Year», «as good as new», «new-born»; in casual talk «what's new?», «new kid», «newbie», «that's new» (that's surprising); in rough talk «you noob, you counted the same one twice»; in the exam voice «8 additional pupils were admitted», «newly acquired volumes», «a further 5 units»

note
A sign of something added to the old amount. «additional», «a further» and «newly acquired» in an exam also add. Trap: «old» and «new» are kinds; «how many new» asks only for the added part. «pre-loved» and «nearly new» mean used. «New» sounds like «knew» (past of «know»). The opposite is «old» or «used».
