sense in the lessons

Interpretation: The law says that the land belongs to God and the people are only "strangers and settlers" with Him, so land cannot be sold forever and must go back in the Jubilee year. In the primary lessons: In history and geography lessons settlers are the people who arrived in new lands, such as Europeans in North America, Australia and New Zealand; lessons talk about what they built and also about the harm done to the First Nations, Aboriginal and Māori peoples whose land was taken. In stories a settler is often brave, hard-working and poor, living in a log cabin or a hut. Phrases: early settlers, the first settlers, European settlers, settler families, settler colony.

note

Countable noun: one settler, two settlers. Comes from the verb «settle» (to make a home somewhere) + «-er» (a person who does it). Do not confuse with «settlement» (the place or village they make) or «settlor» (a law word for someone who sets up a trust). Settlers are not the same as explorers: explorers travel and look around, settlers stay. Remember that «settling» land was often taking it from people who already lived there.
