The Hebrew FrameNet Project

What it is about

The authors describe a Hebrew FrameNet built as a semi-automatic translation of English FrameNet 1.5.1. They chose the 200 frames that cover the most frequent English words, and found that English lexical units cover about 66% of their Hebrew corpus of 1.75M sentences. Dictionary translations (about 49K pairs) speed up the choice of Hebrew lexical units, and an annotation tool with morphological search helps pick examples. The resource then has 167 frames and about 3K lexical units (43% verbs, 46% nouns), but only 423 annotated sentences. Automatic projection of annotations from Hebrew Wikipedia reaches only about 10% fully correct, against about 33% reported for English, mainly because of parser errors and lexical ambiguity.

Ideas

For Mova

I1 and I2 go into 05. The verb: system, binyanim, tense and use, and I1 also needs the role logic in prag. I3 is a measure for prag role assignments, checked against a gold sample from treebanks/he/. The text is summary-only, so none of its data goes into the repo.

Topics: Semantic role labeling
