Job 3516 verses, each with its tree and pragmatics: Hebrew, Aramaic (the Targum) and English (JPS 1917), the English sentence by sentence.35:1וַיַּעַן אֱלִיהוּ וַיֹּאמַֽר׃Moreover Elihu answered and said:35:2הֲזֹאת חָשַׁבְתָּ לְמִשְׁפָּט אָמַרְתָּ צִדְקִי מֵאֵֽל׃Thinkest thou this to be thy right, or sayest thou: 'I am righteousness before God',35:3כִּֽי־תֹאמַר מַה־יִּסְכָּן־לָךְ מָֽה־אֹעִיל מֵֽחַטָּאתִֽי׃That thou inquirest: 'What advantage will it be unto Thee?' And: 'What profit shall I have, more than if I had sinned?'35:4אֲנִי אֲשִֽׁיבְךָ מִלִּין וְֽאֶת־רֵעֶיךָ עִמָּֽךְ׃I will give thee answer, and thy companions with thee.35:5הַבֵּט שָׁמַיִם וּרְאֵה וְשׁוּר שְׁחָקִים גָּבְהוּ מִמֶּֽךָּ׃Look unto the heavens, and see; and behold the skies, which are higher than thou.35:6אִם־חָטָאתָ מַה־תִּפְעָל־בּוֹ וְרַבּוּ פְשָׁעֶיךָ מַה־תַּעֲשֶׂה־לּֽוֹ׃If thou hast sinned, what doest thou against Him? And if thy transgressions be multiplied, what doest thou unto Him?35:7אִם־צָדַקְתָּ מַה־תִּתֶּן־לוֹ אוֹ מַה־מִיָּדְךָ יִקָּֽח׃If thou be righteous, what givest thou Him? Or what receiveth He of thy hand?35:8לְאִישׁ־כָּמוֹךָ רִשְׁעֶךָ וּלְבֶן־אָדָם צִדְקָתֶֽךָ׃Thy wickedness concerneth a man as thou art; and thy righteousness a son of man.35:9מֵרֹב עֲשׁוּקִים יַזְעִיקוּ יְשַׁוְּעוּ מִזְּרוֹעַ רַבִּֽים׃By reason of the multitude of oppressions they cry out; they cry for help by reason of the arm of the mighty.35:10וְֽלֹא־אָמַר אַיֵּה אֱלוֹהַּ עֹשָׂי נֹתֵן זְמִרוֹת בַּלָּֽיְלָה׃But none saith: 'Where is God my Maker, who giveth songs in the night;35:11מַלְּפֵנוּ מִבַּהֲמוֹת אָרֶץ וּמֵעוֹף הַשָּׁמַיִם יְחַכְּמֵֽנוּ׃Who teacheth us more than the beasts of the earth, and maketh us wiser than the fowls of heaven?'35:12שָׁם יִצְעֲקוּ וְלֹא יַעֲנֶה מִפְּנֵי גְּאוֹן רָעִֽים׃There they cry, but none giveth answer, because of the pride of evil men.35:13אַךְ־שָׁוְא לֹא־יִשְׁמַע ׀ אֵל וְשַׁדַּי לֹא יְשׁוּרֶֽנָּה׃Surely God will not hear vanity, neither will the Almighty regard it.35:14אַף כִּֽי־תֹאמַרלֹא תְשׁוּרֶנּוּ דִּין לְפָנָיו וּתְחוֹלֵֽל לֽוֹ׃Yea, when thou sayest thou canst not see Him — the cause is before Him; therefore wait thou for Him.35:15וְעַתָּה כִּי־אַיִן פָּקַד אַפּוֹ וְלֹֽא־יָדַע בַּפַּשׁ מְאֹֽד׃And now, is it for nought that He punished in His anger?
